One of ELKON’s loyal partners since 2004, Kazakhstan’s multi-industry construction holding which is also a common participant of the most prestigious list of Top-250 Global Contractors, prepared by the American edition of the Engineering News-Record (ENR), signed a contract to get its 10th concrete batching plant from ELKON.
The goal of their new project is production of precast concrete elements with special concrete produced precisely in bespoke ELKON tower-type concrete plant with two planetary mixers. In comparison with horizontal-type concrete batching plants, the vertical weighing system used on the tower plants decreases the number of intermediate handling units. At the same time, this saves time in weighing process and increases the production efficiency, but what is even more important despite having such a vast capacity and complexity, the plant occupies a very small area even there is big aggregate storage.
This bespoke concrete plant is a vertical tower and has 8 aggregate storage bins, 75m³ each located above mixers. The loading of the bins with aggregates is carried out by an automated feeding system which consists of a transfer conveyor and distributing rotary conveyor. The discharging system from storage bins to the weighing chute is equipped with both dosing belts and clam shell gates. Then via distributing chute, materials are discharged to either one of the mixers. The mixer block floor includes two planetary mixers that guarantee a homogenous mix for precast production. Both mixers are equipped with several discharging gates to supply mixture to a concrete transport system: there are two cones on the first mixer and three on the second one to provide the possibility of discharging ready-mix concrete to a truck mixer. To provide high precision in production and easy maintenance, a number of optional components such as radar type aggregate level sensors, concrete sampling devices, interlock security mechanism, moisture probes and high-pressure mixer washing systems are installed. The weighing floor includes hoppers for cement, water, and 4x25 l. additives for each mixer. In addition, a precise water dosing system together with a water correction line (via counter) will ensure the correct water-cement ratio which is crucial in precast production. The automation system of the plant is configured for both ready-mixed concrete production and precast concrete production. Moreover, a special accounting program was also integrated into the production software. The concrete plant is accompanied by 4 cement silos of 800 tons total storage.
This set of equipment for precast production cannot be completed without an automated concrete transport system. ELKON supplied two high-speed roll-over buckets with an automation system, as well as current collectors with all additional accessories for the rails of the delivery system. It is important to note that the assembling of the plant was mostly completed by the customer due to travel restriction caused by covid-19, however once the borders had been opened, ELKON specialists arrived to the site to finalize works and started up the plant.
