The client initially specialized in manufacturing materials and providing construction services for the road construction industry. Over time, they successfully expanded their operations to cover general construction projects. They have completed numerous road and airport projects and offer a range of products, including hot and cold asphalt, ready-mixed concrete, and precast elements.

The client visited the ELKON booth at BAUMA 2022, where we were showcasing the ELKOMIX-135 QUICK MASTER Compact Concrete Batching Plant. Impressed by the quality of our products at the show, they decided to visit our production facilities, which span over 100,000 m² in Çerkezköy, Turkey. After seeing our state-of-the-art technology and advanced production capabilities, they placed an order for the ELKOMIX-135 QUICK MASTER Compact Concrete Batching Plant for the Apron X project at Malta International Airport.

The concrete plant is equipped with a 4500/3000 L twin-shaft mixer, 6 x 20 m³ capacity inline aggregate storage bins, and two 125-ton bolted-type cement silos. A grid is installed over the aggregate storage bins to prevent large stones from entering the hoppers and damaging the equipment. The plant was strategically positioned to suit the client's jobsite requirements.

The Apron X project will develop an area equivalent to 14 football pitches, significantly increasing the airport's aircraft parking capacity and enhancing its ability to manage mixed-fleet operations, especially during peak summer hours. The new apron will accommodate up to seven medium-sized aircraft or three larger ones. Additionally, the project will prepare for the electrification of parking stands, aligning with the European Union's plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by supplying parked aircraft with electricity.

Construction on the project is expected to begin in the coming weeks, pending approval from the local Planning Authority. The company aims to complete the first parking stands by the summer of 2024, with the entire project slated for completion by 2026.
